Juvenes Translatores

In dem von der Europäischen Union organisierten Wettbewerb Juvenes Translatores übersetzten Schüler und Schülerinnen des BORG Texte von einer EU-Sprache in eine andere. Für ihre besonders gelungene Übertragung eines Auszugs aus einem Theaterstück wurde Zuzana Dudeskova aus der 8E, Schülerin des Sprachenzweigs, ausgezeichnet und mit Preisen belohnt. Die Qualität ihrer Übersetzung aus dem Slowakischen ins Deutsche beeindruckte das Übersetzerteam der EU.

Thanks to the very good command of the source and the target language, the pupil mastered the translation of the rather unusual text type very well. The challenge here was to focus on a sort of play writing where the translator needs to use a lot of literal speech, idiomatic phrases and colloquial language. Despite a few small grammatical errors and unidiomatic expressions, the student coped very well with this challenge. The pupil was able to think his/her way into the scenes described and to translate these into words. Well done!
